The lattice cutter is a good kitchen tool to help you create a complex but intriguing lattice crust pattern on a pie, beef wellington or pastries. This helps to differentiate your pie from other traditional styled patterns. For an eye-catching pastry pattern, the lattice pastry cutter could be the perfect solution. Another popular dish to decorate with a lattice crust pattern is the beef wellington where a more attractive pattern is used to replace scoring of pastry.
Using the lattice roller cutter is easy as the slotted roller discs are precisely spaced so that the cuts are precise on the pastry sheet. It helps to simplify a complex process in making the weave of lattice patterns on the pastry sheet. The slotted discs are made from food grade stainless steel and a wooden handle for a nice natural grip when using the tool.
As stainless steel is easily recycled, it can be responsibly disposed of at the recycling bin. Its wooden handle is made from rubber wood that was harvested from retired rubber plantations.
Care Instruction
- A convenient way to clean is to use a small toothbrush and mild detergent with some water to clean the metal discs before first use.
- As the handle of the pastry lattice roller cutter is made of wood, do not wash the cutter in a dish washing machine as the wood may be damaged in a dishwasher.
- If possible, do not wash immediately after use as to minimize flour from trapped in between the cutter discs or inside the axel.
- Use a clean dry toothbrush or other type of brush to brush off any excess flour from the metal discs, use a moderate amount of dishwashing detergent on the toothbrush and gently brush off any stain of pastry dough from the metal discs.
- After washing, use a dry kitchen or cloth and pat the lattice pie crust cutter dry and air dry completely before storing away.
- We recommend using a box to store the roller as other utensils in the kitchen storage such as the drawers may dent or bend the metal discs. It also prevents accidental cutting of the fingers when looking for other kitchen tools.
Using the lattice cutter
- For the lattice cutter to cut well it is necessary to keep the crust pastry or puff pastry chilled before cutting. The cut may not turn out well on very thin pastry; it works better at least ΒΌ thickness. It is good to place a clean piece of cloth under the pastry to help you cut better.
- Cut about 1 inch from the starting edge to prevent the pastry from sticking to the blades.
- The width of the cutter blades is 4 1/4 inches. It's possible to stretch the cutter lattice dough to 8 inches sideways to cover a pie.
- Transfer the cut pastry on a flat surface that can help you work on the crust later.
- May require a paring or a small knife to extend cut any cuts that are not fully separated.
- May need to chill the cut lattice web before proceeding to the next step of pastry making to firm the dough for handling and to prevent breakage.
